Nobody warned me how frustrating it would be to tackle what looked like a simple toilet fix, only to have the problem linger. Replaced the flapper yesterday after reading it was the likely culprit for a sluggish flush, but the bowl still barely clears when I hit the handle — water kind of drifts around rather than pulling everything down with any real force.

The toilet is in my condo's main bathroom and has been here since I moved in. It's a standard two-piece unit, nothing fancy. I adjusted the water level in the tank while I was in there and it looks full to the marked line, so I'm not sure what else to check. Looked everywhere online and feel a little silly asking this, but I recently installed a bidet seat in our master bath and it's just... not spraying. We got it set up a few weeks ago and it was working fine, and now when I press the wash button nothing happens at all — no water, no noise, nothing. The toilet itself flushes and refills just fine, so I'm guessing it's something specific to the bidet?

I'm a pretty new homeowner and this is the fanciest thing we've added to the bathroom so far, so I really don't want to break it or make things worse by poking around in the wrong places. Is this something I can figure out myself, or am I already in over my head? Probably a dumb question, but where do I even start?…more

Looked under the sink and found an old bottle of Drano sitting there, and I'm wondering if I can just pour it into the toilet bowl to clear the slow drain. My toilet is probably 20+ years old and starting to drain sluggishly after flushing — not completely blocked, but definitely not moving like it should. Would using a chemical drain cleaner like Drano do the trick, or is that going to cause problems with an older toilet?…more

My toilet in the main bathroom started making a constant hissing sound a few days ago, and the fill valve just never seems to stop running — even a good 10 or 15 minutes after I flush. The tank appears to fill to the normal level, but the water just keeps trickling in like it doesn't know when to quit. I can hear it from the hallway, which is getting pretty annoying.

I'm not sure if this is a fill valve problem specifically, or if something else in the tank is causing it. The toilet is probably eight or nine years old — nothing fancy, just a standard two-piece we had installed when we redid the bathroom. I haven't noticed any water on the floor, so I don't think it's leaking externally. Is this something I can sort out myself, or am I looking at a bigger issue?…more
