Unused Toilet Sewer Smell: Is It a Dry Trap?

My apartment has a second bathroom that basically never gets used, and lately there's been a really strong sewer smell coming from it. I looked up a video on how to fix a dry trap and followed the steps — poured water down the toilet, added a little mineral oil on top to slow evaporation, the whole thing. But the smell is still there, maybe even stronger now, and I'm not sure if I did something wrong or if a dry trap isn't even the issue.

The bathroom has been sitting unused for probably a couple of months since my roommate moved out. I mentioned it to my landlord but haven't heard back, so I'm trying to figure out whether this is something I can actually solve myself before I push the issue further. Why Does My Toilet Run Every Few Minutes?

Looked up a video on how to stop a toilet from randomly running and ended up making things worse than when I started. The toilet in my apartment refills by itself every few minutes even when nobody's used it — it's like it briefly kicks on, runs for 10–15 seconds, then goes quiet again before starting the cycle all over. The landlord is slow to respond, so I figured I'd try to sort it out myself.

Followed a tutorial that said to adjust the float by bending the arm, but this toilet has a newer-style fill valve, not the old ballcock type, and now I'm not sure I adjusted the right thing. The running seems about the same if not slightly more frequent. I can hear it clearly from the hallway at night, which is getting pretty annoying.…more
